Prayers needed for NCCP

Dear sisters and brothers,

We have just received this sad news about our brother in Christ, the Rev. Rex Reyes, general secretary of the National Council of Churches in the Philippines (NCCP):

Dear Esteemed Heads of Churches, Ecumenical Partners and Friends,

We wish to inform you that our beloved General Secretary, Rev. Fr. Rex RB. Reyes, Jr has been confined at St. Lukes Medical Center since Friday, December 5, 2014. With heavy hearts, we wish to let you know that he has been diagnosed with colon cancer.

He and his family have decided not to submit to any invasive procedures but have opted to undergo natural healing methods.

We ask your fervent prayers for Padi Rex and his entire family as they face the days ahead. May they find comfort under God’s sufficient grace and may they be upheld by our common prayers and thoughts. Please include also in your prayers the whole NCCP secretariat who has been working and serving God and the people under Padi Rex’s leadership.

Despite the diagnosis, Padi Rex maintains good and positive disposition. We are thankful that God bestowed him with courage to move on and a strong hope that God indeed is our Healer.

As we celebrate the Holiday Season, may the Star that shone brightly during the first Christmas and guided the wise and the humble to travel in paths unknown be our continuing Hope as we continue to traverse the many paths of service.

Father Rex, who is a priest of the Episcopal Church of the Philippines, is not only a friend but is a much valued and loved indigenous leader, with a passion for and commitment to justice and ecumenism.

Please join me in praying for him, his family and the entire NCCP as they work through this difficult period under God’s Grace while also continuing their powerful witness for peace and justice. Expressions of support can be sent via the NCCP through this address: nccp_oga@yahoo.com.

Peace be with you,

Chris Ferguson
General Secretary
